Who We Are…
Jim Brusse, a Professional Engineer, Founded Trandes as a company in 1972, as a sole proprietorship in the State of Maryland. The firm specialized in developing and implementing software solutions for the design and construction of rapid transit systems. The company name is a derivative of its root purpose, TRANsit DESign. In 1980, the company incorporated in the State of Delaware as TRANDES Corporation.
Between 1972 and 1984, Trandes developed proprietary software and provided computing services to larger engineering firms and construction contractors in the rapid transit and railroad fields, never growing beyond 3-4 employees. Trandes participated with excellence in major transportation projects such as the Washington Metro Subway, the Baltimore Subway, Philadelphia’s Center City Commuter Connection and Airport High Speed lines, Miami’s Rapid Transit System, Atlanta’s Rapid Transit System, Buffalo’s Light Rail System, Calgary’s Light Rail System, and the Northeast Corridor Rail Improvement Project.
Following a sharp downturn in the transportation market in the mid 1980’s, Trandes made a decision to diversify by entering the defense arena as a subcontractor to large Department of Defense (DoD) contactors. Trandes was also certified by SBA as an 8(a) contractor during this period. During the next two years Trandes performed a variety of subcontract logistic oriented tasks for NAVSEA and NAVELEX. On March 1 1989, Trandes and Post, Buckley, Schuh & Jernigan, a large A&E firm, won a 3-year contract from the Washington Area Transportation Authority (WMATA) Subway System. Trandes portion of this contract consisted of computing tunnel alignment and verification using a version of Trandes proprietary software. A month later Trandes was awarded a 5 million/5-year contract by NAVELEXCEN San Diego for logistics support for the NAVSTAR Global Positioning Satellite project. Following in rapid succession were contracts from A.I.D., US Marine Corps, DOT, NAVSUP, USGS, NRC, DTRC and NAVLEX San Diego Depot (overhaul and repair). After this rapid growth and diversification, Trandes reorganized and consolidated around it core competencies. Trandes has reapeatedly been recognized in INC and Hispanic Business Magazines as one of the fastest growing firms in the country. Trandes successfully graduated from the 8(A) program in 1996.
